Äni’s acrylic art on canvas. 2017
80 x 60cm
Part of the artist’s debut exhibition in 2018 and her autobiographical graphic novel My Rosy Road.
Two Hippocampus paintings (one of a seahorse and one of her right hippocampus) are a personal, artistic shout of victory. In 2014 she survived and rehabilitated from a severe brain infection that affected her right hippocampus. During that time she was asked to name a seahorse from cards to test her memory, but she couldn’t. Her best effort was “virtahepo” (hippo in Finnish).
Four years later, she not only could name a seahorse, she could paint both in her first exhibition as a professional artist, and even convey the Latin name of seahorse “Hippocampus” in her art and survival story.
To her, these kind of depth in details, tell her that what ever she has gone through and where it has led her - it’s not a coincidence. But that God is good, and with her in every step of the way and every detail along the route. Through His grace and power she has been able to overcome these difficulties and pursue her path in artistry.
Glory to God, Yeshua.
